1944 Martin 0-18 Flat Top Small Body Prewar Vintage Acoustic Guitar PROJECT!
Here is a nice project 1944 Martin 0-18, featuring pre-war scalloped bracing, offered as a solid restoration candidate for a player-focused build.
Let’s be clear up front — this one is not for collectors, as it has had significant work done over the years. However, it is a very appealing candidate for someone looking to bring a pre-war Martin back to full playing condition, especially given what these typically cost in restored or custom shop form.
The guitar has been completely refinished, and the bridge, pickguard, and tuners are not original. There are also three repaired top cracks, which may benefit from additional attention, along with some light bellying below the bridge area.
In our opinion, this would be a strong candidate for a shade top refinish and full restoration approach, depending on how far the next owner wants to take it. It will also need a neck reset, and while the bridge is not actively lifting, it could benefit from further work as part of a full restoration.
On the positive side, the frets are in pretty nice condition, and importantly, the guitar actually sounds very strong and musical. It has plenty of volume, projection, and that classic pre-war Martin character, even in its current state.
Despite its issues, this remains a pre-war scalloped-braced Martin 0-18, which is still a very desirable foundation for a restoration project.
It comes with a chipboard case.
