Here is one of the best Gibson SG Juniors we’ve had in recent years, and easily one of the cleaner and more structurally solid examples you’ll come across from this era.
This is a 1962 Gibson Les Paul Junior (SG body) in classic Cherry finish over mahogany, and it really checks all the right boxes for a strong, original early-’60s Junior.
This one plays exceptionally well and delivers exactly what you want from a great SG Junior — raw, immediate response with a strong, cutting P-90 voice that has plenty of bite and character. The electronics remain completely untouched, and the pickup sounds bold, open, and very alive.
The guitar is 100% original with the exception of a Mojotone bridge, which has been installed for improved functionality. The original bridge is also included.
Structurally, this is a standout example. It is nice and tidy overall, and importantly does not suffer from many of the common issues seen on these early SG-body Juniors. The neck joint is rock solid, with no signs of repair, trauma, or cracking anywhere on the instrument.
The finish is 100% original with no touch-ups, showing only a few light dings and surface scratches throughout, consistent with normal vintage use. Overall, we would classify this as a very good condition example.
Neck dimensions feel very comfortable, with a wide 1.70” nut width, and depth measurements of approximately 0.81” at the 1st fret and 0.89” at the 12th fret.
Fret life is excellent, with plenty of usable height remaining, making this a guitar that is not only collectible, but also ready to be played and relied on for years to come.
At just 6.0 lbs, it is lightweight, resonant, and extremely comfortable.
