1965 Fender Jazz Bass Custom Color LAKE PLACID BLUE w Original Case L-Series, CLEAN!

ON-HOLD… Here is a really beautiful collector-grade 1965 Fender Jazz Bass in the desirable custom color Lake Placid Blue with matching headstock. This beautiful bass was featured as part of the collection of Norm Harris in his 1999 book, "Norman's Rare Guitars" and was featured on Page 79 next to a Foam Green 1965! We are including a copy of this book...

This one was collector owned and is in very clean condition. It’s an L-series example, and interestingly features a Padauk fingerboard, which was only used for a short period — adding an extra layer of rarity and intrigue.

This bass is 100% original and complete, including the black no-logo hardshell case and both original covers. Not a solder joint has been touched — it’s about as untouched as they come. This represents the end of the “good spec” era Jazz Basses, with the unbound neck and dot inlays that many collectors prefer.

Condition is near excellent, with only light marks and a few small dings, along with some finish checking. Overall, it presents beautifully and has clearly been very well cared for.

The neck is straight, the truss rod works well, and both pickups sound strong and full. The original frets are in excellent condition — they appear tarnished in the photos but will be cleaned prior to shipping.

The Details

  • Condition: Near Excellent
  • Originality: 100% Original
  • Finish: Lake Placid Blue (Custom Color, Matching Headstock)
  • Notes: L-series; rare Padauk fingerboard; collector-owned example

Playability & Sound

This one plays great and sounds excellent. It has that classic mid-’60s Jazz Bass tone — clear, punchy, and well-balanced, with strong output from both pickups. A great example that works equally well for collectors and players.
