1969 Martin 00-18 Acoustic Flat Top Guitar Very Good Condition!
Here is a really nice light project from Martin. It's a 1969 Martin 00-18 that is in very good condition overall and is a great candidate for someone looking for a straightforward repair on a wonderful vintage Martin.
To start off, this guitar does need a neck reset and a bridge reglue. There is also a small split in the bridge in the usual spot between the pins. Fortunately, the bridge is still full height, making it an excellent candidate for a proper repair. The guitar actually plays fairly well and sounds really good as it sits, but technically it does need those repairs to be correct.
Cosmetically, this one is in very nice condition. Structurally, aside from the repairs mentioned above, it's a solid guitar. There are no significant cracks to speak of other than one professionally repaired crack just off the pickguard. The pickguard itself has been replaced with a genuine Martin stick-on tortoise pickguard.
As expected for the period, it features a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, bridge, and headstock overlay, along with a Sitka spruce top, mahogany back, sides, and neck, and a bone nut. It also retains its original Grover USA tuners. The frets show very little wear, leaving plenty of life for years to come.
Even needing a neck reset and bridge reglue, this is already a fun guitar to play with a really nice, open Martin voice. Once properly sorted, it should make a wonderful small-body vintage Martin.
The Details
- Condition: Very Good
- Originality: Original aside from the replacement Martin pickguard
- Finish: Original Natural
- Notes: Needs neck reset, bridge reglue, and bridge crack repair; one repaired top crack adjacent to pickguard
Playability & Sound
Even in its current state, this guitar plays decent and has a really nice, open vintage Martin sound. The action is somewhat playable, but a proper neck reset and bridge reglue will allow it to perform exactly as intended. With very little fret wear and a solid overall structure, it's an excellent candidate for restoration as it's in good overall condition.
