1980 Veillette-Citron VC-II Bass #177 Neck-Through Harvey Citron Signed Rare Original!

Here is a really special and rare Veillette-Citron VC-II bass from June 1980. This is serial number 177, built during the original Kingston, New York era, and features the Harvey Citron-signed backplate.

These early Veillette-Citron basses have become legendary among those in the know. Often referred to as the "Alembics of the East Coast," they were built to an incredibly high standard with no expense spared. From the exotic tonewoods to the all-brass hardware, this is truly boutique craftsmanship from one of the pioneers of high-end American bass building.

The construction is exceptional, featuring a highly figured maple neck-through design with beautiful flamed Hawaiian koa top, center laminations, and matching headstock overlay. The ebony fingerboard complements the exotic woods perfectly, while the bass retains all of its original character.

It appears to be 100% original, including the original Allen-Bradley potentiometers, unique Veillette-Citron pickups, Schaller tuners, and the extensive solid brass hardware, including the bridge, tailpiece, nut, backplate, and strap buttons.

The bass plays exceptionally well with low action, a straight neck, and outstanding tone. The original pickups have a voice all their own—clear, powerful, and incredibly articulate.

Condition is Very Good Plus overall. There are some more noticeable buckle marks on the back from honest use along with a few light indentations on the top, but overall it presents as a very clean and well-cared-for example.

It comes with what appears to be the original hardshell case.

Playability & Sound

This is an exceptionally well-built bass that feels every bit as impressive as its reputation suggests. The neck is straight, the action is low, and the instrument has an effortless feel. Tonally, the original pickups deliver a rich, articulate sound with outstanding clarity and punch. It's easy to understand why these basses earned comparisons to Alembic—they're truly among the finest boutique basses of the era.
