1984 Gibson Les Paul SUPER CUSTOM Neal Schon Journey Flame Everywhere! Beautiful Vintage Guitar!

Here is a rare 1984 Gibson Les Paul Limited Edition Super Custom, a very cool model associated with Neal Schon of Journey. This Japanese-market Gibson is a real beauty and features some of the most impressive figured wood we've seen on one of these. It's somewhat reminiscent of the Les Paul 25/50 Anniversary model and THE LES PAUL, but with its own unique look.

The top has tight tiger flame, the sides have more of a quilted figure, and the back combines birdseye maple and flame figure. Even the back of the neck has spectacular tiger-striped flame. It's a really fancy-looking guitar from top to bottom.

This particular example is in Very Good condition overall and has had a super professional headstock repair and refret. The work is top notch and was done very well. There are some stand marks on the bottom, as shown in our photos, but otherwise it's a very nice-looking guitar.

This was a Japanese-only model and features the Custom Shop Edition decal and "Gibson Authorized Instrument NIHON Gibson" designation. The original pots are still untouched and date to the 40th week of 1983, which is another nice detail.

The guitar plays easily and sounds excellent with the original Tim Shaw humbuckers. The strap buttons have been replaced with locking types, and we believe the knobs are newer as well.

It comes with a fairly new Gibson hardshell case.

Playability & Sound

This one plays easy and sounds excellent. The professional refret makes it a very enjoyable guitar to play, and the neck has a comfortable profile at 0.82" at the first fret and 0.96" at the 12th fret.

The Tim Shaw humbuckers sound fantastic and give this Les Paul plenty of punch, clarity, and character.

At 10.5 lbs., it has the substantial feel you'd expect from a highly appointed Les Paul.
