Here is a very special early Fender Custom Shop guitar—a 1989 Fender Masterbuilt J.W. Black 50s Stratocaster Reissue in Burgundy Mist Metallic with all gold hardware and a special-order highly figured flame maple neck.
This is a really cool piece of early Fender Custom Shop history and, according to the original documentation, the figured neck was a $200 special-order upcharge back in 1989. The guitar comes with an incredible amount of original paperwork, including the original 1989 receipt and two separate documents showing when and where the guitar was ordered.
This was from the very early days of the Fender Custom Shop and represents what J.W. Black was building during his early Masterbuilt work. It's really interesting to see the level of customization Fender was doing at the time.
The guitar is 100% original and in Excellent condition overall. There is a moderate amount of finish checking throughout, but it actually looks really cool on this guitar and gives the Burgundy Mist finish a great vintage vibe.
More importantly, this is a fantastic-playing and sounding Stratocaster. It has a very comfortable neck, weighs just 7.0 lbs., and is every bit as enjoyable to play as you'd hope from a great Strat.
It comes complete with the original Fender hardshell case and all the original paperwork, including the original 1989 sales documentation.

Playability & Sound
This is a really great-playing and great-sounding Stratocaster. The neck has a comfortable profile measuring 0.84" at the first fret and 0.97" at the 12th fret, with a 1.66" nut width.
At 7.0 lbs., it has a great overall feel and balance. This one really holds up as a fantastic Stratocaster from any era.
