2002 Gibson Custom Shop CS-336 w '34 L-5 Neck 1934 Reissue ONE OFF! Very Unique!

Here is one of the most unique Gibson Custom Shop creations we’ve seen, a custom order CS-336 that was built with truly one-off specifications and exceptional attention to detail.

This is far from a standard CS-336 — it was spec’d with a 1934 reissue L-5 neck, making it a very unusual and highly specialized hybrid build. It also features an Ultima tailpiece, a striking deep blue finish with dark back, and a beautifully executed stinger on the back of the headstock.

The woods on this guitar are outstanding, with highly figured maple used on both the top and the back of the neck (L-5 style), giving it a very high-end, almost archtop-inspired visual character despite its semi-hollow platform. It is also fitted with gold Waverly tuners, completing the vintage-inspired aesthetic.

This is effectively a true one-off Custom Shop order, built directly through Gibson Custom with bespoke specifications.

Condition is very close to mint, with only minor cosmetic signs of handling — a few light swirl marks from being in the case and some mild oxidation on the gold hardware, but nothing that detracts from its overall presentation.

It comes complete with the original hardshell case featuring the unused combination lock, along with the COA, original listing information, custom order documentation from Gibson Custom, and the full set of case candy.

At just 7.0 lbs, it is also lightweight and very comfortable.

The Details

  • Condition: Near Mint
  • Originality: All original (Custom Shop one-off spec)
  • Finish: Custom Blue with Dark Back
  • Notes: Custom order CS-336; 1934 reissue L-5 neck; Ultima tailpiece; highly figured maple; stinger headstock

Playability & Sound

This guitar plays with a refined, high-end feel, combining the resonance and openness of a semi-hollow CS-336 platform with the more substantial, vintage-inspired L-5 neck profile. Tonally, it offers rich sustain, excellent clarity, and a very articulate response across the spectrum.
