Here is a beautiful Tom Murphy-painted Gibson Murphy Lab 1959 Les Paul Reissue, and a standout example of what many players and collectors consider the quintessential modern “Murphy Burst.”

This one features a killer figured maple top with exceptional movement—shifting from subtle, light figuring to heavy 3D tiger flame depending on the viewing angle. It has that dynamic, alive look that really defines a great Murphy-painted top, with depth and complexity that changes as the light moves across it.

Being an earlier Murphy Lab example, it carries the slightly more textured, “flaky” finish character that some associate with the first wave of aging work. Rather than taking away from it, this actually enhances the overall impression, giving it a more organic, naturally aged appearance that feels very close to a true vintage instrument.

The guitar is equipped with Custombucker pickups, delivering that classic late-’50s Burst tone—open, expressive, and harmonically rich, with excellent clarity and sustain.

Playability is excellent, with a very comfortable and highly desirable late-’50s neck profile measuring approximately 0.89” at the 1st fret and 0.99” at the 12th fret, giving it a very authentic and familiar feel in the hand.

Tonally, this one really delivers. It is resonant, dynamic, and full-bodied, with the kind of response you expect from a well-executed Murphy Lab Burst—big unplugged resonance that translates into a thick, singing electric voice with strong midrange focus and excellent note bloom.

Condition is excellent overall, with tasteful Murphy Lab aging throughout and only the intended factory wear.

At 8.7 lbs, it has a solid, substantial feel without being overly heavy, contributing to its strong sustain and authority.

It comes complete with the original aged hardshell case, matching COA, and all original paperwork as shown, all consistent with the instrument.
